What is a Solidor – and why choose one?

If you’re looking for a front door that combines traditional and contemporary styling and will keep you and your family safe and secure, a Solidor composite door could be the choice for you.

What is a composite door?

A composite door is made from a mix of materials but built as a single, solid unit, in the same way as timber doors. They are typically foam-filled with a textured GRP skin (also known as fibreglass) that is colour sprayed. Most composite doors are 40mm-44mm thick, and the security levels on the market vary wildly.

Why choose Solidor?

While a typical composite door is 40mm thick and has a foam-filled centre, every Solidor is 48mm thick with a solid timber core. The timber core is sandwiched between two ABS door skins and finished with highly durable uPVC edge banding.  The laminated timber core is both thermally efficient and incredibly secure. Couple this with 3* cylinders as standard and a Police Approved lock, and your door will be among the most secure available.

When it comes to colour and design, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Solidor offer the market’s widest range of door styles across their Traditional and Italia collections, and the largest range of colours from stock in the UK. Colours range from French Grey and Peacock Blue, to newer colours like Truffle Brown and Forest Green. To complete your door, choose from a wide range of glass designs, furniture and accessories.

Solidor proudly fly the flag for British manufacturing with their full composite door range produced at their Staffordshire facility. They also offer the market’s most comprehensive environmental policy with their Green Promise.  All Solidors can be recycled at the end of their extensive lifespan, with all the factory off-cuts recycled too.

Are Solidor composite doors secure?

Absolutely! Solidor composite doors feature insurance and Police-approved locking systems and bear the CE Mark and BSI Kitemark. Their Stable Door design is accredited by the National Police Crime Prevention Initiative, Secured By Design (SBD) and has passed a series of rigorous, physical tests to achieve this accreditation. As standard, Solidor fit their exclusive Avantis Secured by Design locking system, with the largest deadbolt in the UK available on their lever handle doors.  As a result of their security innovations, Solidor boasts some of the most secure composite doors on the market.

What about energy efficiency?

Composite doors are one of the most energy-efficient products you can choose for your home. Solidor’s solid timber core provides exceptional thermal efficiency being 10% thicker than the foam cores of a typical composite door. The ABS ‘skin’ is made from the same durable plastic as Lego® so it will take whatever’s thrown at it!

We’ve installed thousands of Solidor composite doors and can vouch for their reliability. Whether you’re looking for a contemporary style or something more classic, a Solidor combines the perfect finish with modern technology. Enjoy kerb appeal in abundance, safe in the knowledge that you and your family are safe and secure.  Contact our friendly team for more advice.
