Solidor Windsor Composite Door in Irish Oak | Bollington

centred, symmetrical, and completely transformed

First impressions matter, and the entrance to this Bollington home was ready for its next chapter. The original door arrangement – a traditional part-glazed double door with decorative leaded panels – had served its time, but the homeowners wanted something more considered, more architectural, and more definitively theirs.

To achieve that, we went further than a straight swap. Removing the original door and its surrounding frame, we also took out the brickwork below to create a wider, more generous opening. What replaced it is a completely rebalanced entrance – a Solidor Windsor solid composite door in Irish Oak, centred precisely within the opening, with a full-length glazed side frame running the full height on each side. The symmetry is immediate and intentional, giving the entrance a presence and confidence the original simply didn’t have.

The Windsor is a clean, contemporary style – horizontal planks running the full width of the door, no glazing in the door panel itself, letting the form do the talking. The Irish Oak finish carries consistently across both the door and frame externally, bringing warmth and a natural, timber-like quality that sits beautifully against the red brick. Inside, everything is finished in white – door and frame alike – keeping the interior bright and clean without any compromise on the richness of the external appearance. The full-length side frames allow generous natural light into the hallway without compromising the clean lines of the door itself.

The gold furniture – handle, letterplate and cylinder – is the detail that ties everything together. Against Irish Oak, gold hardware has a richness that feels deliberate and well-considered, elevating what could have been a straightforward installation into something that genuinely stands out on the street.

This is what a well-specified entrance door can do. Not just a replacement, but a reimagining – and the difference from the street is immediate.

frequently asked questions

What is the Solidor Windsor composite door?

The Solidor Windsor is a solid core composite door from the Solidor range, featuring a distinctive horizontal plank design that gives it a clean, contemporary appearance. Unlike many composite doors, the Windsor is available as a fully solid panel with no glazing in the door itself, making it a bold, architectural choice where the form of the door does all the talking. It combines the visual warmth of a timber-effect finish with the strength, security and low maintenance of a modern solid core construction.

What is Irish Oak on a Solidor composite door?

Irish Oak is a warm, golden-toned timber-effect finish available across the Solidor composite door range. It closely replicates the appearance of natural oak without any of the maintenance requirements of real timber, making it a popular choice for homeowners who want the warmth and character of a wood-effect door with the durability of a composite.

What are full-length side frames on a composite door installation?

Full-length side frames are glazed panels that run the full height of the door opening on one or both sides, allowing natural light into the hallway while extending the visual width of the entrance.

Why choose gold furniture for a composite door?

Hardware finish plays a significant role in how a front door reads from the street. Gold furniture – including the handle, letterplate and cylinder – adds warmth and a sense of quality that complements timber-effect finishes like Irish Oak particularly well.
